Baby, it’s cold outside ❄️
It seems that the cold winter weather is well and truly here, the days are short and the Christmas ads have started… That can only mean one thing; the Christmas countdown is on!
The festive season is fun, but these short days can give you the winter blues. On top of that, the combination of chilly weather and central heating can cause all sorts of skin problems including dryness, dullness and sensitivity.
But a few simple changes to your skincare routine can make a big difference.
So, how can you look after your skin this winter?

1. Moisturise!
You should be doing this all year round, but in the winter it can be harder to keep your skin hydrated.
Make sure you’re using a gentle cleanser and consider switching to a heavier moisturiser (that contains SPF).
Dr Kathryn recommends Heliocare 360 which has a moisturiser to suit every skin type, and Obagi Nu-Derm, a prescription skincare system designed to combat a number of skin concerns.

2. Swap coffee for green tea!
Green tea is full of antioxidants that work to combat redness and irritation, and help to unclog pores. It contains Vitamin B2 and Vitamin E which are essential for skin health and collagen.
Green tea is also great for reducing puffy eyes and dark circles. And it’s more hydrating than coffee!

3. Look after your hands!
It’s not just your face that has to tackle the elements! Keep hands hydrated and give them a protective barrier by moisturising before you go out.
On those extra chilly days pop on a pair of gloves (one for the Christmas wish list if you don’t already have a pair!)

4. Consider your diet and exercise!
It’s tempting to stay in and eat chocolate all winter, but regular exercise and eating well will do wonders for your health and skin.
Antioxidants and vitamins from fruit and veg will help to support you in cold weather, and exercise will boost circulation to your organs and skin.

5. Book a treatment with Dr Kathryn!
Winter is the perfect time to have your aesthetic treatments. Less sunshine means there is a lower chance of inflammation and hyper-pigmentation following treatments such as skin peels.
Fillers can help hydrate your skin from within, and facial treatments can give you back a healthy glow!
An aesthetic treatment can be the boost you need to feel and look your best, just in time for your Christmas parties!
